‘Drug peddler’ killed in Mymensingh ‘gunfight’

An alleged drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with Detective Branch (DB) of police in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Abdur Rashid, son of Rafiq Miah from Trishal Bus Stand area.

Confirming the information, Mymensingh Detective Branch Officer-in-Charge, Shak Kamal Akhand said: “Being tipped-off that a group of drug traders are selling drug, a team of detectives conducted a drive to Trishal Bus Stand area around 12:30am to capture them. Sensing the presence of police, the drug peddlers opened fire on them, prompting retaliation that triggered a gunfight.”

“Police recovered the bulled-hit body of Abdur Rashid and sent it to a hospital for an autopsy” he added.

Police claimed to have recovered 100gm Heroin and a pistol from the spot.

Abdur Rashid was accused in 7 cases filed over the drug-related allegations, according to the claim of police.
