A total of 24 teams will remain vigilant in the capital city from Monday to check the buildings of the city whether building safety codes are followed there, said Public Works and Housing Minister SM Rezaul Karim.
Stern action will be taken against those who violate the rules, the minister also said during a meeting on FR Tower fire incident and steps for building safety at Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) auditorium on Sunday.
Public Works and Housing Ministry secretary Shahidullah Khandaker, chief engineer of Public Works division Md. Shahdat Hossain, National Housing Authority chairman Md. Rashedul Islam, Architecture Department chief engineer Kazi Golam Nasir and Razuk chairman Abdur Rahman, among others, was present in the meeting.
The minister said, “If any lacking in building design is found, action will be taken against this. Stern action will be taken if any irregularities are found. To check this, 24 teams will start their operation from tomorrow.”
He asked the house renters to check the fire safety, emergency exit in the building before rent a house, said a RAJUK press release.
“We will publish and air details of the probe committee’s report after it come to light. Countrymen should be informed about the greedy people who are making building illegally without thinking peoples safety,” said the minister.
